Key Responsibilities of an IPDRG Coder:
Review and Interpretation of Clinical Documentation:
Carefully examine patient records, including physician notes, discharge summaries, and procedure reports, to accurately identify diagnoses, procedures, and other relevant information.
Code Assignment:
Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for diagnoses and procedures, ensuring compliance with official coding guidelines and DRG grouping rules.
DRG Grouping:
Determine the appropriate DRG based on the assigned codes and clinical documentation, which is crucial for accurate reimbursement.
Collaboration with Healthcare Professionals:
Work with physicians and other clinical staff to clarify documentation and resolve any coding discrepancies or uncertainties.
